Spoiler: Hold Me Closer, Whiny Dancer
I should probably spare the blogosphere this tedious whining, but I'm just not in a gratitude list sort of mood.
A week ago I had much anticipated foot surgery-- a total toe joint replacement for my right big toe. I totally under-anticipated the amount of pain I've been in as well as the recuperation time. Perhaps the doctor did as well. When I went for my check-up yesterday, he remarked that he had to do a lot more work than he anticipated, and he thinks the pain and slow recovery are both to be expected. Oh, well.
I did not receive a Lilly Endowment grant for next summer. Other funding sources may yet develop, so we'll see. Nevertheless, I'm disappointed. Oh, well.
Work gallops apace, even without me. I'm grateful for an amazing colleague and wonderful staff, but I'm feeling like a distracted lump. Even though I'm working (kind of a euphemism) with my foot elevated, I feel slow, easily tired and distracted by pain. Oh, well.
The unbloggable parts of life are slowly improving. I do give thanks for this. I do.

I'm glad your ubloggable parts of life are slowly improving....and so sorry about the toe surgery. We forget how crucial our feet and toes are to everything we do...and pain any where in our bodies becomes pain every where. sigh. rest well...I'll keep you in my prayers, many healing thoughts coming your way.
Rehab...regard of joint or appendage...never an easy task. Hang in there.
Sorry about the Lilly Grant. One of my mentors applied last year and did not get it either. He called them...and they were very helpful as to why he was not selected. Perhaps an option...
Here's to less of unbloggables.
(((Jennifer))) I'm so sorry about the toe surgery, except it sounds like it was really necessary. Prayers and love, dear friend.
Hi Jennifer. Thanks for commenting on my blog. I'm in Woodridge, so we are almost neighbors! Hope your toe is healing steadily day by day.
Ouch, that surgery sounds painful! Prayers for healing. I'm sorry for the disappointment about Lilly.
I'm sorry about the things that are paining you right now.
But I have to say, your post title made me giggle.
so sorry about the surgery. One of my parishoners is going through the same thing. and sorry about the grant ... hope the unbloggable continue to get better, and praying for healing for your toe
(((Jennifer)))) so hard to hear about your foot.
about the Lilly: I hear that those are NOTORIOUSly difficult to get. (I guess I'm trying to make myself feel better, too.)
Our former pastor tried unsuccessfully for a Lilly Grant. He too, called and received some feedback on his application. I hope that you are much further along in your recuperation by now. And hurray for progress on the unbloggables.
i read this post several times, and i still have no encouraging words. drats! we could hook up a sled or a sleigh to baileybean and mochajava and as your foot heels, they could pull you around.
or maybe not. they get distracted quite easily. me too. prayers for relief, for new hopes...
